It even came as a surprise to me that this dish wasn't already on my website! After all, it is a true Italian classic. Fortunately, it’s never too late to add this delicious recipe. The great thing about this dish is that it isn't very complicated, it's ready fairly quickly, is filling, and tastes amazing, too! You can also make this recipe using homemade gnocchi, as I described in a previous post!

Ingredients

  • 500 gr Gnocchi

  • 1 pot Passata

  • Basil

  • 1/2 onion

  • 1 Mozzarella

  • Grana Padano

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 200°C.

Finely dice the onion and sauté it in a pan with olive oil and basil until translucent. Then add the passata. Once it is warm, add a little water to allow the sauce to thicken. Simmer the sauce for at least half an hour so the flavors can meld.

Meanwhile, cook the gnocchi according to the package instructions or wait until they all float to the surface. Once the gnocchi rise to the top, they are cooked!

Take a baking dish and start with a layer of tomato sauce; add a layer of gnocchi, followed by mozzarella (torn into pieces) and Grana Padano, then repeat the process. This means the mozzarella and Grana Padano will form the top layer. Place in the oven for about 15 minutes. Check that the mozzarella and Grana Padano are crispy on top, then the dish is ready!

Let it rest after removing it from the oven and sprinkle a little more Grana Padano over the top.

Buon appetito!
